Consultative Session with Stakeholders on the Development of the Direct Marketing Guidance Note

June 15 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Regulator has noted a significant increase in the number of complaints lodged regarding the processing of personal information through direct marketing by means of unsolicited electronic communications. This necessitated the need to consult with interested parties in order to develop and issue a Guidance Note on direct marketing in light of the proposal by the Direct Marketing Association of South Africa (DMSA).

This consultation aligns with one of the functions of the Regulator, which is to consult with interested parties, receive, and invite representations from the public on any matter affecting the personal information of a data subject, as per section 40(1)(c)(i) of POPIA.

Recognising the importance of engaging and consulting with stakeholders in the consumer and direct marketing industry, the Regulator deems it necessary to invite all stakeholders, organised structures, and data privacy experts interested in direct marketing to join us for a consultative session. The purpose of this session is to gather inputs towards the development of the guidelines.
